Ms. President - vs Mr. President

Writer: Réal LaplaineRéal Laplaine

The two most troublesome nations in the world today, threatening world peace and democracy, are headed by men, dictators at that.

Imagine if a woman was in charge of Russia or the United States?

This is not to say that all female leaders are better than male ones, but let's face the facts.

  • 99% of all wars are started by men.

  • All dictators in the world today, the ones threatening the world (Putin, Trump, Netanyahu, etc.) are men.

  • Roughly 10% of national leadership roles in the world are held by women, the rest, are men.

If the power structure, particularly in the most influential nations, were shifted to women, do you really think we would have warmongering, outright and insane destruction of political and commercial alliances, violations of human rights, mass deportations, and all the other insanities we see - or would the innate female maternal nature dominate and would they lean towards creating peaceful relationships, nurturing bonds and alliances?

As I said, this is not to say that women are better than men, but one thing is for certain, history is testimony to the fact that the imbalance of power is and always has been destructive to world order - and that has never been more true than today.

I know, the very idea of a woman President in the United States probably sends shivers up the spines of fundamentalist Republicans who envision The Handmaid's Tale utopic society, where men are completely in charge and where women are regressed to being baby-makers and compliant home-care-takers - subservient to men; and certainly in Russia, the oligarchs and old-school Stalinist clubbers would heave up their vodka and caviar at the very mention of turning the reins over to a woman, because of their love affair with Czars and dictators over the past century.

It's time to shift that power and let women in the door, because I truly believe that we need some people at the helm who want to nurture life and alliances, not destroy them.
